An experimental work has been carried out for the determination of clays and minerals from both, modern wood and archaeological wood remains from the site of Orejas de Burro 1 (Argentina) in order to establish their chemical composition and the causes of their variation. The results from the modern samples show a chemical composition with only the elements present in the plant structure, but the archaeological samples include the presence of clay minerals and halite (NaCl) suggesting that they have been in contact with marine water.
