Resumen:
We report a case of autochthonous visceral-leishmaniasis from north-western-Argentina, due to Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum characterized for the first time by cytochrome-b-gene-sequencing . The result obtained demonstrated that it is not a case of visceralization of dermatropic-Leishmania-species, as suspected before. The area of infection is of intensive deforestation and no vector sand fly species are recorded. It is necessary to carry-out further intensive epidemiological-surveys in the area, in order to anticipate the spread of the disease.
