Resumen:
THE SOCIOLOGICAL PRODUCTION IN THE Southern Cone grows year after year, incorporating new questions to the traditional concerns of sociology in the region. This dialogue between tradition and new perspectives reflects the transformations that Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay have gone through in the last 30 years, but it also accounts for the most recent changes, such as the visibility of women´s and LGBT movements. In this sense, recent sociological developments in these countries address some topics that match what could be called the "historical Latin-American sociological traditions": urban sociology, sociology of migrations, sociology of work, and sociology of social change. These studies, in general, focus on the popular sectors and their strategies of survival and social mobility. Several researchers examine the strategies of the poor to access housing in large cities and to coexist in the same territory with people of the middle and upper classes; some analyze the forms of organization of informal workers; and others study the strategies that migrants deploy to adapt to the societies in their destination countries. While these studies are part of a long-standing tradition, they focus on current social issues. On the other hand, four more trends are evident in the sociological production of these countries.
