Resumen:
PUBLICATIONS ON SOUTHERN CONE SOCIOLOGY advance year after year, incorporating newavenues of research that reflect a rapidly changing social and political agenda alongside different social movements. This evolution implies a dialogue between traditional subjects of Latin American sociology, such as social structure and demography, and other perspectives that are growing in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, such as gender. In this sense, recent sociological works about these countries deal with some topics that align with the "historical Latin American sociological traditions": urban sociology, sociology of migrations, demographic studies, and sociology of work. These studies focus on the popular sectors and their strategies of survival and social mobility. Many researchers investigate recent processes of gentrification—most of these productions refer to Santiago de Chile—and the coexistence in the same territory of poor people with people of middle and upper classes; others analyze the collective actions of unions and their results; and still others study the strategies that migrants and ethnic minorities develop to adapt to their social environments. These studies incorporate current social issues at the same time that they are part of long-standing traditions.
