Resumen:
Here we report on magnetic (magnetic susceptibility, anhysteretic and isothermal remanent magnetisation, thermal demagnetisation) and non magnetic (scanning electron microscopy SEM, and x-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy EDS) studies of vehicle-derived particles collected from primary sources (exhaust pipes of two kinds of vehicles: gasoline and diesel-powered engines, as well as from the brake system), and deposited particles on road and soils. Preliminary results, especially magnetic and chemical studies, have been recently published in Marié et al. (2009), revealing that the magnetic signal of vehicle-derived emissions is controlled by a magnetite-like phase with magnetic grain size ranging between 0.1 µm and 5 µm. Furthermore, there is an enrichment of some trace elements: Ba, Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb. In this study, we focus on the magnetic properties of primary pollutants generated by vehicles, and particularly on SEM and EDS complementary studies of magnetic extracts in order to investigate morphologies and trace elements associated.
