Study of states of consciousness under the effects of anesthetics through the use of information quantifiers

Study of consciousness is a great topic in neurosciences. Information quantifiers have proved to be useful tools for interpreting electrochemical patterns dynamics (o electrophysiological measurements). Anaesthesia procedures allow to measure loss, emergence and different states of consciousness within controlled scenarios. In this research, we analyse monkeys electrocorticogram recordings under different anaesthesia drug protocols using four information quantifiers. Results showed that the use of these measurements allow to detect different states of consciousness in monkeys during phases of anaesthesia procedures. In addition, we could observe that these information quantifiers showed different patterns among different drug pharmacological profiles.We propose that these metrics could be useful as state of consciousness indexes for human patients under anaesthesia.
