Resumen:
We study the presence of structural breaks in capital áows of sixteen economies of Latin America, using Zivot and Andrews (1992) test, complemented by Bai Perron (1998) test, which at the same time of testing the stationarity of a series proposes a date as a possible break. Afterward we proceed to analyze the likelihood of contemporaneity between the breaks we had found and the crises the countries had su§ered in the end of the XX century and the beginning of the XXI century. The crises that are taken into account can be of four types: currency, banking, domestic and external debt. We found many cases of contemporaneity, especially with crises that occurred at the end of the 90s.
