Resumen:
Whole genome sequencing and fungal genomics are revolutionizing our understanding of biological mechanisms in fungi. To date, the genomes of 40 fungal species have been released and further yeast sequencing projects are underway, including pathogens and those used as basic models for molecular and cellular biology, thus representing the widest sampling of the genomes from any eukaryotic kingdom. This offers a unique opportunity to study the biology and evolution of this medically, industrially, and environmentally important kingdom. The goal of the course is to introduce graduate students into the field of functional genomics, providing them with the new technical strategies and theoretical insights wich are needed to address this matter in various fungal models such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aspegillus nidulans, together with important human and plant pathogens and biocontrol agents. Ample discussion will be encouraged during the symposium, with the goal of establishing collaborative programs among the international community.
