Resumen:
This chapter advances a field theory approach to international policy circulation through atheoretical discussion and an empirical demonstration. The theoretical section first discussescommon biases of the policy transfer and diffusion literatures within political science. It then brieflyreviews the heuristic emphasis of Durkheimian, Marxist and Weberian inter-social sociologies ofpolicy exchanges between national political arenas along with their relative explanatory blind spots.Next, it elaborates a historically and institutionally sensitive field-sociology of policy circulationthat coherently integrates those sociological perspectives through the field-theory concepts ofinformal empire social spaces, national policy fields, international policy strategies andinternational organizations as-fields. Finally, in the empirical moment, it draws on previous inter-social and comparative studies of criminal justice policies since the transitions to democracy inArgentina and Chile to show how such conceptual field-theory took-kit allows dissecting thetransnational dynamics and conditionings of policymaking in the (Latin American) globalperiphery.
