Resumen:
Nutrients and herbivores interactively affect plant communities, but some functional groups may be particularly susceptible to changes in these two drivers. N-fixing legumes, specialized in nitrogen acquisition, should decrease with increasing aboveground competition induced by fertilization, but the effect of herbivore exclusion and its interaction with fertilization is elusive. With a coordinated experiment including 42 grasslands in six continents, we assessed how nutrient enrichment and grazing exclusion effects impacted grassland legume cover. On average, nutrient enrichment (Size effect=-0.06) and herbivory exclusion (Size effect=-0.05) additively reduced legume cover relative to untreated controls; and this negative effect intensified with time [Time*Fence & Time*NPK: p
