Resumen:
Theuse of echo levels from ADCP recordings for estimating suspended-load in rivershas become more and more widespread over the last decade. Empiricalsemi-empirical and physical-based acoustic methods have been applied indifferent case studies in the field, which provided good relations between suspendedparticles features from samples and corresponding acoustic properties that arethe acoustic backscatter and sound attenuation (abs and sat, respectively). These methods also implied different assumptions regarding the concentrationhomogeneity along the investigated profiles. Our work was to compare acousticproperties of suspended sediment samples in two large rivers of the world thatgives advice on the actual possibility of using certain ADCP frequencies anddeployments depending on the expected acoustic properties to investigate thesuspended-load.
