Resumen:
The Tulum Valley, with about 700.000 inhabitants, is located in the San Juan province, central-western Argentina. The valley develops in theactive deformation front of the Central Andes, with a main contractional regime. The observed reliefs are associated with neotectonic faults andwith ancient tectonic structures, forming an area of high seismic activity, the largest known in Argentina. The physical environment Diagnosis of the Tulum Valley was carried out. It is the main phase in the land-use planning. The novel dimension inthis study is the addition of the tectonic variable not associated with a geological risk but as the main element for delimitation of land units(LU). LU are used as operational areas for the planning of human activities.Geophysical methods, such as magnetism and gravity, allowed to determine the geophysical anomalies associated with geological structures.Gravity and magnetic residual anomalies were related to the most superficial structures and were used for the correlation with the QuaternaryGeology. For the Quaternary study, fieldwork and collection of historical data were made, satellite images and digital terrain-elevation modelswere used.
