Resumen:
The development of intermediate temperature solid Oxide Fuel Cells (IT-SOFC) as high ecient energyconversion systems requires the optimization of its components: cathode, anode and electrolyte. The performanceof IT-SOFC mainly depend on the structural, morphological and electrical properties of its components and theideal situation is to studied them in-situ or in-operation conditions. In our group we have been working in thedesign of a multipurpose instrument capable to perform measurements of X-ray and electrochemically relatedtechniques simultaneously under non-ambient conditions (high temperature under a wide variety of atmospheres)or even in-operando measurements of high temperature electrochemical devices. We present some results of themeasurements of the structural and/or electronic changes of several materials using the developed cell in the hightemperature X-ray laboratory diraction camera and in the X-ray powder diraction (XPD) and X-ray absorption(XAFS) synchrotron beamlines at LNLS. Some of the studied systems are: the gadolinium-doped ceria (GDC)that is considered as one of the most promising electrolytes for IT-SOFC, composite materials formed by NiO andGDC which were widely studied for the preparation of ecient anodes and perovskite materials such as La(1 x)SrxCo(1y)FeyO(3d) (LSCF) that were recognized as excellent cathodes. The structural and morphologicalcharacteristics are analyzed by X-Ray Diraction and Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy, respectively. The correlation between the electrochemical behavior, electronic properties and microstructural characteristics willbe discussed.
