Bariumceratesandzirconatesareinterestingmaterialsduetotheirabilityfortransportingprotonsthroughtheircrystallattice.ThisfeatureandtheirstabilityathightemperaturesmakesthempotentialcandidatesasH2sensors,membranesforH2purificationandisotopicexchange(H/D/T)andaselectrolytesforprotonconductorsolidoxidecells(PC-SOFCandPC-SOEC).InpreviousstudiesonBaCe0.8Pr0.2O3-δ(BCP)andBaCe0.4Zr0.4Y0.2O3-δ(BCZY)[1,2],sinteringcapabilities,electricalconductivityandCO2tolerancepropertieswerestudied(seeTable1).ABCZY/BCPbilayermembranethatcouldtakeadvantageofeachmaterialpropertieswasdesign,whichcouldoperateasPC-SOFC/SOECelectrolyte.
