Resumen:
Barium cerates and zirconates oxides arecapable of transporting protons through their crystal lattice [1]. This featuremakes them potential candidates as hydrogen sensors, membranes for hydrogenpurification and isotopic exchange (hydrogen, deuterium, tritium -H/D/T-), andelectrolyte for proton conductor solid oxide fuel cell (PC-SOFC) and solidoxide electrolyzer cell (PC-SOEC) [2]. Recently, BaCe0.4Zr0.4Y0.2O3-d compound (BCZY) was proposed as material forthese applications [3]. BCZY presents high intragranular (bulk) protonicconductivity and excellent CO2 tolerance. However, proton conductingperovskites exhibit in certain cases high sintering temperature (1500-1700 °C)and low inter-granular (grain boundary) protonic conductivity. High CO2 tolerance and suitable transport propertiesmake BCZY a good electrolyte for anode supported PC-SOFC when using low purityH2 as fuel. In this work, high temperatureproperties of BCZY, such as crystalline structure, non-stoichiometry, linearexpansion and electrical resistance are presented under wet/dry  H2 and O2 atmospheres.
