The process of familiarization (by exploration) and adaptation to unfamiliar landscapes represents the initial part of the colonization and settlement of a new ?empty land mass?. In most of the cases, this process was mainly developed by hunter-gatherers in many parts of the world and there are several variables that acted in this landscape learning event and their subsequent occupation, such the particular environment (e.g. availability of critical resource and climatic condition) and the adaptation that the colonizers brought with them to the new land.
