Resumen:
Enterohemorrhagic Shiga Toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is a bacterial pathogen responsible for a zoonosis of local importance known as Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). Cow intestine acts as a reservoir for the microorganism; therefore, the development of accessible prophylactic vaccines that can control the bacterial number within the intestine of cattle, in order to reduce its release in thefeces (prefaena vaccines) is critical to reduce the risks of contamination of meat derivatives with STEC. Immunity based on antibodies directed against E. coli O157: H7 surface antigens (type III secretion system proteins and other membrane complexes) has been shown to interfere with intestinal colonization in cows and to reduce bacterial load in fecal matter.
