Resumen:
Barium cerates show interesting features as electrolytes for Proton Conducting Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (PC-SOFC) as well as Electrolyzer Cell (PC-SOEC). BaCe0.8Pr0.2O3-δ (BCP) perovskite presents good mechanical properties associated to sintering capability. However, this compound indicates poor CO2 tolerance above 500 °C and it would present mixed conductivity under wet synthetic air. BaCe0.4Zr0.4Y0.2O3-δ (BCZY) perovskite presents protonic transport nature and excellent CO2 tolerance, but high grain boundary resistance. BCZY film was deposited by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) in order to block electronic conductivity and improve CO2 resistance of BCP. From electrochemical characterization of materials, it is proposed that BCP would dominate transport mechanisms on BCZY/BCP bilayer membrane under wet synthetic air and wet diluted hydrogen. BCZY film would block electronic conductivity of BCP under wet synthetic air. BCZY/BCP bilayer membrane could operate as PC-SOFC and PC-SOEC electrolyte between 400 and 600 °C.
