Resumen:
The replacement of the synthetic polymers for biopolymers is one of the topics with major summit in the last times. Cassava starch based films containing citric acid (CA) at two different processing temperatures (70 °C and 82 °C) were developed by casting method. The effects of CA and processing temperature on water content, mechanical properties and thermal properties were investigated. Molecular mobility was evaluated by 1H-NMR measurements. Furthermore, FTIR and swelling assays were performed. The addition of CA led to an increment of strain at break and decrements of Young´s modulus and tensile strength. FTIR and swelling studies showed that crosslinking was efficient. Besides, moisture content decreased in the presence of CA. The materials developed with citric acid at 82 °C showed no significant improvements respect to films at 70 °C.
