Resumen:
Objectives: Restitution of lost function may be explained by brain reorganisation. The aim of this study was to determine the neural basis of compensation for language functions in a patient after focal left hemispheric damage. Patient and Methods: We used fMRI in a 64-year-old right-handed woman with a tumour involving the left frontal, temporal and parietal cortex, to record neural activity during a verbal memory task pre and 11 months post-surgery. Language task consisted of naming the months of the year and names of family members. Blood Oxygen Level Dependent (BOLD) images were acquired using T2-weighted gradient echo planar sequence on a General Electric Sigma CVI, 1.5T system with Real-Time Image Processing (RTIP) of multislice and multiphase images during patient stimulation and rest periods. fMRI post-processing was carried out at a Silicon Graphics Octane workstation using Medx 3.4 (Sensor System), including motion correction and Gaussian smoothing filter to produce statistical maps (threshold p
