Resumen:
fuel cell (DEFC), differents materials have been investigated to be used as support for the catalysts in the electrodes of the cells. The most used are those based on carbon, within this group of materials is the mesoporous carbon which has multiple advantages. On the other hand, the modification of material surfaces through functionalization with strong acids generates oxy-gen surface groups on the material. They could generate a better dispersion of metallic nanoparticles. The required catalysts must have a high dehydrogenat-ing capacity, hence Pt emerges as the best alternative. How-ever, Pt is very easily poisoned by CO. Therefore, it is sought to complement Pt with a second metal. It has been found that Re promotes the breaking of the C-C bond at low tem-peratures, this step is vital for a complete ethanol oxidation [1].This work studies the influence of the functionalization treatment of the mesoporous carbon and the promotion ef-fect of Re on the ethanol electrooxidation reaction.
