Resumen:
Due to increasing environmental regulations, many processes have been developed for therecycling of batteries. One of the most common methods is hydrometallurgical where batteries, once opened are leached with an inorganic acid such as HCl, H2SO4 or HNO3 with H2O2 as areducing agent.Product of the oxidizing metabolism of bacteria of the generous Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, reducing and acidic chemical species are formed, that are capable of reacting with thecompounds present in batteries (Mn2+, Zn2+, Co2+) where it is feasible to recover them. The aim of this work is to analyze the use of cobalt and manganese oxides, which were obtainedfrom a biohydrometallurgical process, in the catalytic abatement of a typical VOC such astoluene.
