Since 2001 Argentina's economy has experienced a growth path in which the manufacturing sector is leading the process of economic transformation. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to analyze whether the current economic and industrial performance can be characterized as a new process of import substitution. In order to do this we study the main features of the actual pattern of economic and industrial growth, the driving forces behind it, the level of concentration and foreign capital participation, its dependence on external markets and we empirically test whether the country is experimenting an import substitution process.
