Resumen:
Microbially InfluencedCorrosion (MIC) is one of the main processes that preclude the integrity offacilities in the Oil & Gas industry. However, the assessment andmonitoring of microbial communities have been limited to traditionalmethodologies based on serial dilutions using specific culture media (NACETM194). As established in NACE TM212, traditional methodologies only allow forthe identification of a maximum of 1% of the total microbial population, whichhas led to poorly effective mitigation strategies. To assist therequirements of O&G industry, the first MIC Consortium of Argentina hasbeen recently launched. In this consortium, a multidisciplinary and synergisticresearch team has been established to provide a highly reliable assessment ofmicrobial communities and assist in the development of more efficientmitigation strategies. The main goal ofthis consortium is to gather the most important Oil & Gas and service, companies in Argentina to characterize microbiome in surface facilities. Thiscollective work is in its beginning, and mainly focused on determining a robustmicrobial map of the main biological agents threatening our productionfacilities. In thisopportunity, the lessons learned during the first year of work will bediscussed, and the general findings will be shared in order to improvemitigation strategies.
