Resumen:
This presentation aims to introduce the layout design problem of an indoor positioning system using Visual Light Communication (VLC) technologies [1]. Thesetechnologies allow the transmission of information through a beam of light, whichcan be used in artificially lighted areas as a positioning system. For this, the element to be tracked must have a Tag that identifies it. This system has shown itspotential in location systems where GPS (Global Positioning System) technology isnot enough, as in the case of Copper Mines in Chile [2]. Given the success in thosecases, where the area to be mapped by the lights was ”linear” (i.e. tunnels), it issought to extend it to 2D areas. Where it is sought to cover an area with the lights,in such a way that the error tolerance in terms of location is respected [3]. Althoughit is a new problem in technological and decision terms, this problem has many similarities with the ”packing” family problems. This presentation will discuss thosesimilarities and differences (or new features) concerning ”packing” problems, andpresent some interesting results.
