Resumen:
Pesticides studies include the analyses of compound chemical properties, their presence in environmental matrixes, risk evaluation associated with pesticide exposure and also, toxicological studies. Most of researchers are specialized on one area and work in collaboration to complement their studies. In this way, opportunities on international cooperation improve the relationships amongresearchers from different areas obtaining a most comprehensive approach to theproblem. Knowledge for pesticides control (KNOWPEC), aims to create a transnational research network between Europe and Latin America focused on the presence of pesticides in the environment. KNOWPEC attempts to identify the occurrence and fate of banned and toxic pesticides in drinking and naturalwaters in agricultural areas of Latin America where knowledge on occurrence and risk associated is scarce. In addition, the project KNOWPEC tries to assess the risks related to the pesticides applications according to the environmental concentrations, and also provide solutions able to reduce pollution atsource and propose alternatives for remediation of soils and water. In this sense, it is expected to develop new applicable tools and informationin order to contribute to safeguarding drinking water supplies and providing solutions for sustainable food production and to transfer these tools to local farmers to promote the necessary actions to care the environment and minimize the pesticides impact use. This project promote the sharing of knowledge betweenEuropean and Latin America institutions from pesticide analysis, toxicity, risk assessment and advanced treatment technologies that jointly enables the design of sustainable solutions to each pesticide pollution problem at a localscale. This project has received funding from the European Union?s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement N° 690618 KNOWPEC.
