Resumen:
Iron Oxide Pillared Clays synthesized by a conventional method was developed as a new material that is capable and useful for retaining As in drinking water. Montmorillonite (Mt) was used as clay mineral starting material. Solid materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms and the BET area was determined. Dispersions were prepared with solid material and arsenic solutions in a ratio of 8g L-1 and the adsorption capacity was evaluated at several pH values. As(V) was completely removed from aqueous solution at pH 4.0 and 6.5 using the modified clays while low adsorption was observed using Mt. Adsorption equilibrium was reached at reaction time of one hour approximately
