The genus Pterocactus is recorded for first time for the flora of Chile, represented by P. hickenii. Previous to this finding, the distribution of this species had been known only from SE of Patagonia. The new record extend its geographical range to all of the patagonic plateu south of latitude 43º 30' S in Argentina.
