Pump-Probe UV-XRay: Beyond femtosecond time resolution

The Achilles heel of pump-probe vibrational spectroscopy is the limited time resolution hindering the study of ultrafast processes, ubiquitous in the realm of photochemistry. Here, we address the ultrafast photodissociation of ICN and we show that pump-probe UV-XRay spectroscopy might enable monitoring chemical reactions on excited states with atomistic detail, including transient vibrational features with unprecedented time resolution.
