Resumen:
A B S T R A C T This paper is the first approach to characterization of the strategies for fish resources and their implications in the subsistence of the hunter-gatherer groups that inhabited Patagonia Northern Coast in pre-Hispanic times. Our study is focused in otolith analysis (calcium carbonate structures in the internal ear of bony fish) of whitemouth croaker (Micropogonias furnieri). Otolith morphology and morphometry in relation to present data are compared. The total length, population structure and composition of archaeological population are considered, being differences between populations. These differences in relation with the micro environmental features of each sector and possible techniques of capture of this resource are evaluated. This paper constitutes the first step to understand the selection strategies, captures and advantage of this resource. and morphometry in relation to present data are compared.
