Resumen:
Drug discovery and development are usually very costly and time-consuming processes. Therefore, drug repurposing is an at- tractive option for treating multi- ple diseases due to significantly reducing the time and costs invested in these tasks while using less risky compounds. Furthermore, drug repurposing consists of identifying new therapeutic applications for known drugs that are different from the original ones. This strategy provides several benefits compared to de novo drug synthesis, as repurposed drugs have already passed preclini- cal, clinical, and formulation testing in animal and human models. Thus, such compounds are often safer and cheaper than newly developed drugs, with a lower risk of failure. Moreover, drug repurposing may help to discover new drug targets and signaling pathways that may be therapeutically exploited
