Resumen:
During menopause exits an imbalance between the pressor Angiotensin II (Ang II) andthe protective (Ang 1-7) arms of the renin-angiotensin-system (RAS), which leads tooxidative stress, hypertension and cardiac dysfunction. Restoring RAS balance wouldprevent cardiovascular diseases in menopausal women. We have previously modified the structure of telmisartan (Telm), an Ang II receptorblocker, with Zinc (ZnTelm), demonstrating a higher drug effectiveness. In this work, weexamined if chronic treatment with ZnTelm, in comparison with Telm alone, was a betteralternative to prevent cardiovascular damage during menopause. We used 16-week-oldspontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) which were sham-operated or bilateralovariectomized (OVX-SHR). OVX-SHR rats were randomly divided in 3 groups: no-treated(control), treated with Telm or treated with ZnTelm (10 or 11 mg/kg/day drinking water for8 weeks). Results (n=6 per group) were analyzed by ANOVA. * p
