Resumen:
In the plant hydraulic circuit, the root is described as a rheostat due to its capacity to tune the water flux under different environmental conditions. Its participation has been addressed in terms of functional properties; anatomical and/or architectural modifications. The root hydraulic conductivity (Lpr) is the parameter that better reflects the efficiency to move water. A reduction on Lpr is the most conserved strategy to avoid the water deficit. This could be attributable to different alternatives: to avoid water loss increasing resistance to water entry and/or to aid water redistribution decreasing plant resistance at the whole plant level. This context requests to discuss: i) in which range the rheostat works; ii) how a slight capacity (
