Resumen:
The garter snakes (Thamnophis elegans) inhabiting the Eagle Lakebasin of the Sierra Nevada mountains in North America have beenstudied since 1976 for their evolution of feeding behaviour, lifehistorystrategies, and ecology. More recently, we have focusedon divergent behaviours (exploration, aggression, boldness),physiology (immune function, metabolism, stress responses), andmolecular networks (insulin-like signalling, heat stress expressionprofiling, mitochondrial transcription), as well as the fitness-effectsof variation along these axes. Here, we will summarize findings thatboth agree with and that challenge the generality of the pace-of-lifehypothesis, and offer insights into the contexts under which we seeagreement and contrasts with this theory.
