This article provides with a overview of the social organization of prostitution in the cities of Montevideo, Uruguai, and Buenos Aires, Argentina in the 1920s. It sketches an overview of the sex trade in both cities, the social reaction towards prostitution, its legal situation in both cities, and it presents some of the social profiles of prostitutes. It also presents a selected bibliography.
