The first record of Pterosauria in the Bajo Barreal Formation (Upper Cretaceous), central Patagonia, Argentina

Resumen:
We report a newly identified pterosaur material from the Bajo Barreal Formation (Upper Cretaceous) exposed at the locality of estancia Ocho Hermanos in central Patagonia. The material described, correspond to a first wing phalanx. This fossil is significant in that it adds to the generally sparse global record of Cretaceous (especially Late Cretaceous) pterosaurs and constitutes the second southernmost occurrence of Pterosauria worldwide. Likewise, this material establishes the presence of pterosaurs in the Bajo Barreal Formation, which enlarges the known fossil fauna of this unit and, therefore, our knowledge of the early Late Cretaceous vertebrate assemblages of central Patagonia.
