Resumen:
From 26-27 November 2012 theWorkshop on Southern Hemisphereand South American Climate washeld in Buenos Aires, Argentina,back-to-back with the SPARC SSGMeeting, hosted by the Centro deInvestigaciones del Mar y la Atmósfera(CIMA). SPARC provides expertisein several key areas relatedto climate variability and climatechange, such as dynamical variability, ozone, stratosphere-tropospheredynamical coupling, gravity waves, temperature trends, and data assimilation, amongst others. The southernhemisphere (SH), and in particularSouth America, are regions of theworld in which research of these keythemes is highly relevant, and needsto be expanded and strengthened becausethe current South American researchcommunity addressing theseissues is relatively small. The maingoal of the Workshop was to gatherlocal researchers interested in differentaspects of current and futureSPARC research together with participantsof the SPARC SSG meetingto promote interaction amongresearchers and to identify the mainSPARC-related research topics of relevanceto the region. The Workshopincluded 22 oral talks and 5 posters, with contributions from Argentina,Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombiaand Uruguay, combined with contributionsfrom SPARC scientists. TheWorkshop agenda was broad, coveringseveral different research topics.
