Resumen:
Background: A high frequency of HIV resistance to Nevirapine (NVP) has been described, when this drug is administered to HIV-infected mothers in labor as a simple pMTCT regimen. Emergence of NNRTI resistance has been shown to be less frequent if NVP is given with a short course of Zidovudine (ZDV) and Lamivudine (3TC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the emergence of  resistant strains to NVP after discontinuation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) with 3TC/ZDV/NVP in HIV-positive women, in whom ART had been prescribed only because of their pregnancy to prevent HIV MTCT. Methods: Two-hundred and thirty HIV-infected women were followed during their pregnancy. Twenty of them, naïve to ARV therapy or preexposed only to ZDV in previous pregnancies, in whom 3TC/ZDV/NVP had been prescribed during the second or third trimester were studied. They received ART during 1 to 8 months (median: 4 months) and their median viral load at labor was
