Resumen:
The aim of the present study is to analyze the composition and distribution of glycoproteins (GPs) of the glandular stomach mucosa of Mugil platanus.  Adults specimens of both sex were colected from the inner part of the Mar Chiquita lagoon (Pcia. Bs. As.). The glandular stomach was removed and fixed by inmersion in Davidson. Histologicals techniques were performed: H-E and Masson trichrome stain; and histochemical for identification of GPs: with oxidizable vicinal diols (PAS); with sialic acid residues (KOH/PA*S); with sialic acid residues with O-acyl substitution at C7, C8 or C9 (PA/Bh/KOH/PAS and PAPS); neutral with oxidizable vicinal diols (KOH/PA*/Bh/PAS) and with carboxyl groups and with O-sulphate esters (AB pH 2.5; 1.0 and 0.5). The GPs of the secretory epithelium presented oxidizable vicinal diols groups, sulphate and carboxyl groups, sialic acid residues with and without O-acyl substitution at C7, C8 or C9 and O-acyl sugars. The GPs of the glandular cells presented oxidizable vicinal diols groups and sialic acid residues with O-acyl substitution at C7, C8 or C9 and O-acyl sugars, showing in its apical edge a more intense positive reaction to the same histochemical techniques. The presence of different classes of GPs would contribute to cover various functional roles.
