Resumen:
We study the central region of the supernova remnant (SNR) G290.1--0.8 in order to search for a possible compact stellar remnant associated to it. Our analysis of XMM-Newton and Chandra archival observations reveals three point-like sources. Two of them are hard X-ray sources, possibly Active Galactic Nuclei. The third one, located very close to the projected geometrical centre of the SNR, is a bright soft source immersed in a diffuse structure. From the X-ray study we infer that this central source presents soft thermal emission and absence of pulsations and wind nebula. Moreover, we found no counterparts at other wavelengths. These results suggest that this compact X-ray source could be a weakly magnetized central compact object (CCO) possibly associated to the remnant.
