A simplified model for the hydrophobic effect: Monte Carlo simulations

Square water is a simplified model which takes into account the directionality of hydrogen bonds. Specific heat measurements are used to show that the model for pure water does not preset phase transition. The model properties as a solvent for apolar particles are also studied through Monte Carlo simulations. Phase separation and the relation with the hydrophobic effect are discussed.
