Overview, prospect and thoughts on the use of biomass for energy purposes

Biomass is strongly promoted worldwide mainly for: i) its renewability potential, constituting a promising source of energyin a global context of depletion of fossil fuels; ii) its potential carbon-neutrality, essential in the face of a process of globaloverheating due to an increase in greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere; and iii) its potential role as a tool forlocal sustainable development: on the one hand, it is the constitutive base of ecosystems, and the other hand, it is linked toterritorial configurations and human existence making it possible to implement different systems of bioenergy and mobilizelocal economies. In this brief article, these "potential" aspects will be analysed and discussed, noting in particular theimportance of biomass in the present national context and its future prospects
