Resumen:
Several studies indicate that cytokines and chemokines may play a role in the pathogenesis of idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSA). A significant decrease in serum RANTES levels was found in RSA patients compared to fertile women. Moreover, recombinant RANTES, in vitro, induced a dose-dependent inhibition of the maternal T-cell proliferative response, as shown by reduced thymidine uptake. The induction of apoptosis of CD45R0+ cells and Bcl-2 modulation suggest that RANTES might be an active blocking factor of the mixed lymphocyte reaction. Based in this human-evidence we investigate RANTES levels during pregnancy in an abortion murine model. Methods: Levels of RANTES were determined by capture ELISA in the sera of high resorption rate CBA x DBA/2 pregnant females compared to CBA x BALB-c and BALB-c x BALB-c normal pregnant mice. Nulliparous, primiparous and multiparous CBA and BALB-C females were also studied. Results: We found that RANTES levels in sera from nulliparous CBA females were significantly diminished in comparison to nulliparous BALB-c (p
