Resumen:
An optimal EP-based treatment, i.e., a treatment based on electroporation (EP), such aselectrochemotherapy (ECT), Gene Electrotransfer (GET), or irreversible electroporation(IRE), is a function of pulse amplitude, length, number, and frequency, among othervariables. Finding an optimal EP-based treatment in a space of 4 parameters is adifficult task. In previous works [1]-[2] optimal GET was studied in terms of pulsenumber, for a range of pulse intensities, with all other variables kept constant; unwanteddamage due to pH fronts and the concept of the dose-response relationship wasdiscussed. Here we extend those results by analyzing an optimal EP-based treatment interms of pulse length considering damage due to temperature and/or irreversibleelectroporation effects. An optimal dose-response relationship in an EP-based treatment, such as IRE, for the range of pulse intensities with fixed pulse number and frequency, tested here, is predicted as the critical pulse length dosage yielding maximumirreversibly electroporated tissue with minimal damage due to temperature.
