Resumen:
Because of their large potential for agricultural, industrial and medicinal applications, nanomaterials have been the focus of much research during the past few decades. Nanoclays are inert and natural substrates constitute excellent vehicles for the controlled release of biologically active compounds. In the present work the use of clay as a possible carrier of bioactive molecules for two different applications are assessed. For medical applications the collation of a model drug, salicylic acid, in the interlamellar spaces of a sodium bentonite was investigated. Moreover, the multifunctional protein GLPI was immobilized onto modified and unmodified bentonites. This protein, due to its multiple biological activities, has high impact of biotechnology application in the field of agricultural microbiology. In both systems, the results obtained are promising to advance the functional study of modified clays for potential biotechnological application.
