This paper proposes the development of an ophthalmological information system focused on the problem of retinopathy of prematurity, a condition characterized by an alteration in the development of retinal blood vessels that in our country affects thousands premature children per year, and that if it is not treated in time can lead to a loss of visual capacity and even blindness. The needs and motivations that justify its development and the criteria for the design of a low-cost and distributed system which allow its use in telemedicine are described. In addition, the details of a procedure for the registration of this type of images that are currently used in the clinic by a group of experts, representing the starting point for the definition of the system, are also presented.
