“Gourmet” predation of Liolaemus lizards in the Puna Region of northwestern Argentina

Predation can have important effects on animal communities. Birds are frequent predators on lizards (Bianchini, 2014; Figueroa-Rojas and Corales Stappung, 2004; Santoyo-Brito et al., 2014; Troncoso-Palacios et al., 2020; Valladares Faúndez et al., 2015) and some leave explicit, unconsumed leftovers in tree branches and bushes, for example, the head (Young et al., 2004). Here we document the profligate consumption by a bird of the internal organs and tail of Liolaemus lizards by analyzing the desiccated individuals found on shrub branches.
