Resumen:
Isolatedfrom root nodules of alfalfa grown in acid soils from Argentina and USA,strains LPU83T and Or191 were Gram-negative, aerobic, non-motilerods. These strains share the same plasmid patterns; lipopolysacharideprofiles; insertion sequence fingerprints; 16S rRNA gene sequences;PCR-fingerprinting patterns and were different from reference strains of definedRhizobium species. On the basis of previouslyreported data and from new results on DNA-DNAhybridization, ANIm and phylogenies presented in this taxonomic study, strains LPU83T and Or191 areconsidered to represent a novel species of the genus Rhizobium, for which the name Rhizobiumfavelukesii sp. nov. is proposed. Thetype strain of this species is LPU83T.
