Resumen:
The aim of this presentation is to analyze the evolution of the pattern of social mobility by sex in a country with relevant economic ups and downs as Argentina (Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area), across periods between1960 and 2017, which represents almost the total surveys data available for Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. We are interested in exploring whether the so called deindustrialization led to a more hierarchical pattern of mobility or if it remained constant. Our exploratory hypothesis is that a certain stagnation of economic development in Argentina has increased class barriers to prevent long-term mobility, as well as enlarged the affinity between certain classes such as the skilled working class, unskilled working class and the petty bourgeoisie (with a large amount of informal employment). For this, we will apply topological models, specifically the core model, such as the Erikson and Goldthorpe version (1992) discussed in Bukodi, Goldthorpe and Kuha, (2017). We will try to see if there are variations in the class mobility pattern along time (over periods), within the context of log linear and log multiplicative models. Our study rests on a recompilation and homogenization of 18 surveys from 1960 to 2017.
