The star field giant branch clump Vertical Structure in the Large Magellanic Cloud

Resumen:
We revisit the study of the Vertical Structure (VS) phenomenon, astriking feature composed of stars that lie below the Red Clump (RC)and extend from the bottom of the RC to ∼ 0.45 mag fainter, fromCCD Washington CT1 photometry of an unprecedented database of 5.5million of stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). The quality andaccuracy of the colour-magnitude diagrams obtained for 336 LMC fields(9? × 9? each) allow us to confirm that the VS phenomenon is not clearlyseen in most of the studied fields of the LMC and link its occurrence toother conditions in addition to the appropriate age, metallicity, and thenecessary red giant star density.
